Are you trying to switch from Minecraft Bedrock Edition to Java but don't want to leave your old world behind?! Usually, this is not possible due to both versions being completely different from each other and even having different mechanics, but this is where a world conversion tool called Chunker comes into the frame. Chunker is a tool that helps you convert your Minecraft Bedrock Edition world into Java Edition or vice versa. It is totally free to use and convert your world's version in minutes. To top that off, it is very easy to use and doesn't even require much experience to handle.

Downloading Your Bedrock Server World

Start by downloading your Bedrock Server world via an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client and downloading the world file named 'worlds' by default in Bedrock Edition Servers. On downloading your world, zip it in order to further convert it to a different edition of the game. You can also view our guide on how to download your Minecraft world from your server at https://www.mcserverhost.com/community/tutorials/how-to-download-your-minecraft-world-from-your-server/

Converting Your Bedrock World to Java Edition

Before starting, you have to install Chunker on your device in order to use it. To do that, simply navigate your way towards their main page at https://www.chunker.app/ and install the correct version of their software according to the operating system that you are using.

1. Open Chunker on your device, add your recently downloaded world file into it, and start the process.

2. Give it some time to process your world and select the edition (Java or Bedrock) and version (1.21, 1.19, and many others) you want to convert your world to once you reach the export section and click on Convert. In this case, we are going to convert our world into Java (1.21.4).

3. On proceeding further, save your newly converted file, and that's it!

Importing the Converted World into Java Edition Server

After you are done converting your world into a different edition of the game, you can follow the steps below in order to import your newly converted world files into a Java Edition Server.

1. Log in to your MCServerHost dashboard, and stop your server in order to avoid any type of error while importing your world.

2. Connect to your server via SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) and delete all your world folders — world, world_nether, and world_the_end.

3. Unzip/Extract your newly converted world, import it to your server, and rename it to 'world'. This allows the server to recognize your world files.

4. On doing that, restart your server, and your newly converted world will get installed on your Minecraft Server.

Common Issues

Server is not loading newly converted world - Make sure you have successfully deleted all previous world folders (world, world_nether, and world_the_end) before importing the newly generated world folder created via Chunker.

Server is loading a new world - This happens when you forget to rename your converted world folder to world, allowing your server to detect and load it properly. Make sure the converted world is placed in the correct directory and that no other conflicting world folders exist. Additionally, check that the level-name setting in the server.properties file matches the world folder name. After making these changes, restart your server to apply them.

Conclusion

That's it! On successfully following all the steps in this tutorial, you will be able to convert your Minecraft Bedrock Edition world into Java Edition or vice versa. Just make sure to back up your Minecraft Server before proceeding. Similarly, the process is very easy to follow and comes in handy when switching from the Bedrock edition of the game to the Java edition.
